Lion Hubrich

I’m a sociologist. In my research, I use the perspective of elite studies to address questions on the intersection of social inequalities, economy, and technological change. My upcoming book, Digitale Eliten in Deutschland: Zwischen Deutschland AG und Amerikas Tech-Bros (Suhrkamp), is based on my dissertation at Humboldt-University of Berlin, in which I analysed the composition, legitimacy, and subjectivities of German economic elites in relation to the digitalization of capitalism.

Currently, I’m an associated researcher in the working group on the sociology of economy, work, and technological change at Humboldt-University of Berlin, and I also teach sociology of technology as a lecturer at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Science. In the past two years, I carried out research visits at the London School of Economics (LSE) as well as at Princeton University, and I taught sociology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.

I studied sociology and political science in Berlin, Brussels, and Leipzig. During my doctoral research, I received a full scholarship by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung). Prior to my academic career, I worked for various consulting agencies, and advised German companies as well as public authorities on matters of digitalization and regional development.
